At some point in time, you’ll be asking yourself if you still want to stay in this country or not.
I do share the frustrations of many about the country’s ills. But at the back of my mind, I can’t think of leaving it just to pursue a dream.
Filipino families migrate abroad in hope of finding bliss or at least a better future. They abandon friends, families, and career. They believe life elsewhere is a lot better. All their thinking is their children’s future.
It is no surprise that many Filipinos feel frustrated. But I might be one of those who only yearn for a simple life. Yes we do have dreams of bliss, where there is a proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. But one friend jokingly said, “Well, yeah, you’ll surely find only light at the end of the tunnel.”
I believe in this country. It sounds corny, but yeah, I want to make a difference in my own little way. I’ve chosen a career in journalism because this is one way to help people determine their future. By documenting tomorrow’s history, we hope to pass on lessons to them. Sounds lofty. But it is doable.
Should I stay or should I go? Given the choice, I want to stay.
